Finding new expression in any of the arts is an ongoing challenge. We are all moved by the glory of nature, the spontaneity of a child, the loneliness of empty landscapes, or the comedy of the absurd and unusual. All of these draw my camera eye. But also being a painter, I am moved to manipulate my photos in the wet or digital darkroom, sometimes to enrich, sometimes to be playful. By playing with my photos in either darkroom, I hope to show the viewer something a little different about the scene I have captured.
My paintings are an expression of my love of colors and shapes. I do not have many dark corners in my life and so I paint the light. I paint what pleases my eye. There are few greater gifts than seeing the world through an artist's eye. As an artist I see light and shadow, color, negative spaces, textures and patterns wherever I look. I am constantly taking snapshots in my mind of compositions I see all around me. The difficulty is in translating all of this into art.
